Vesska Moonwynd

Flake the Owl

The Moonwynd bloodline dates back to the dawn of elves. In the first age, a foul curse was bestowed upon the Moonwynd bloodline for those who stood against a powerful warlock known only as the Dark Seer. The curse damned the souls of any who possessed even an inkling of Moonwynd blood. A Moonwynd soul would never find peace and be forced to wander blindly forever between the worlds of the living and the dead. An elf maiden named Myratika Moonwynd would break that curse. Myratika, a powerful sorceress, sold her inborn power and most of her soul to a powerful being, called by some, It of a Thousand Eyes. The unearthly being shattered what small part of the sorceress’s soul remained into a thousand tiny shards of unquenchable magic. Each of those shards were then attached to a Moonwynd soul. Now every elf of the Moonwynd bloodline has one of those shards of magic attached to them. When any Moonwynd meets their fate, a celestial owl guides their soul to rest and then attaches itself to the next born Moonwynd. Once every hundred years, a Moonwynd that has been marked with a destiny to rival Myratika is gifted the ability to call their celestial guide in the form of a soul-bound familiar, to aid them in life as well as to guide them to their final rest. Vesska Moonwynd is such an elf and the sapphire-eyed and blue-rune-decorated snow owl Flake is her soul-bound familiar.

Game Rules: Flake functions similarly to the celestial owl produced by the find familiar spell with the following exceptions: It can only ever summon a celestial owl. Vesska can use the spell only once per long rest for each character level she has and doing so requires no material components (so at 2nd level she can use it twice per long rest). Also, unlike a normal familiar produced by the spell, Flake can take the Attack Action and his melee attacks count as magic. Use the Owl stat block for Flake.
